Craig Armstrong - 1965 (Covell)


Armstrong was the spirit of Davis High School, where he served as counselor, head counselor and Adult School principal, and, in 1969, DHS vice-principal until his retirement in 1988 after 40 years working for the district.  His interest and dedication lay in students and curriculum

—Active in Davis Community Church

—President, Kiwanis Club

—Chair, Yolo County Health Council

—Chair, Babe Ruth Baseball League

—Chair, Yolo County Board of Supervisors Youth Activities Committee

—Practiced multicultural curriculum before term came into being

—President, Davis PTA, the Davis Council of PTAs, and the Yolo County Education Association

—Served as the first Davis district team leader for the Davis Global Education Project

—First at DHS in the morning, the last to leave, and never missed a play, football game or musical event

—Took a special interest in students with emotional problems, who were barely going to graduate

—Drove teachers to workshops/meetings in his own car and dime when there was no budget for staff development

—Was always leaving clippings in teachers’ mail boxes to keep them abreast of their subject areas

—Was active in the CTA and Phi Delta Kappa education fraternity.
