Chiles, a music teacher at the elementary school and talented pianist, was cited for the following:

—Chairman, Davis Chapter of the American Red Cross 1953–61, Member, Yolo County Red Cross

—Worked on drives in 1957 benefiting Hungarian War victims

—Worked on local polio, tuberculosis and cancer drives

—Membership and active participation in the PTA, Leisure Hour Club, Library Club, and Farmer-in-the-Dell Chapter of the Children’s Home Society

—Member, Davis Citizens’ Commision for Public Schools

—Member, St. James Church and the Davis Catholic Ladies Society

—Davis Council of Republican Women

—Active participation in church and politics 

—Provided emergency housing for 1,100 flood victims during 1955 Yuba City flood

—Davis Historical & Landmarks Commission

In August 1964 Kathryn Chiles died at age 58 after a long illness.
